Originally known as Great Lakes Feedscrews, Glycon was founded with the specific objective to provide service to the automotive plastics molding industry for melttrain components. This service-oriented approach was well received by custom molders and original equipment manufacturers throughout the plastics industry.
With the advent of "engineering resins" in the late 1970s, wear resistance requirements became more demanding. Problems such as accelerated deterioration of screws and barrels due to abrasive and/or corrosive attack required immediate solutions. Glycon provided those solutions.
In the 1980s, as polymers became even more sophisticated, we introduced the first program to utilize computerized melt simulation and interpretation in the design process of high-performance screws used with specific engineering resins in injection molding.
In the 1990s, Glycon gained national attention as a problem solver by working closely with nationally recognized material suppliers, machine suppliers, and automotive partners to overcome major splay problems that threatened to shut down a new auto assembly line. Glycon also stepped up product-development efforts and was awarded patents on a very effective "quick shut-off non-return valve" (QSO®), an excellent mixing screw (UniMix™).
As we look to the future, we still view ourselves as problem solvers, seeking unique solutions to special challenges. At the same time, Glycon is committed to making high performance affordable by producing a family of products that allow molders and extruders to select a standard feed screw that more exactly meets their application requirements. You don't pay extra for high performance with Glycon.

Product & Process Development
As processors gear up for production on a new project, Glycon's dedicated Product Development Center has the resources to help optimize screw performance, testing several different designs and then zeroing in on the best melting and mixing combination. Or, if a molder is having a problem with splay or burning, or if an extruder is not getting proper mixing or sufficient throughput, technicians at the Center, can reproduce these problems under controlled conditions and quickly find ways to attack the problem through the application of the latest screw and processing technology.
Runoffs & Mold Trials
To avoid tying up profitable production equipment in time-consuming machine runoffs and mold trials, Glycon technicians can work with customers to optimize performance in our facilities before production begins.
Glycon experts can help extend the life of costly meltstream components. Feed screws can be repaired to match original performance specifications. Barrels can be resleeved to original dimensions. Other components, like our QSO® non-return valve, can be rebuilt. All done quickly and with the highest standard of quality.
To make certain you're getting maximum performance and quality from your meltstream system, Glycon can help train your staff in effective setup and operation. We can provide training in your plant or at our Product Development Center.
Glycon can assist with setup and maintenance of your feedscrew and related meltstream components. Our 10-Step Field Service Program streamlines setup and checks that your feedscrews are operating correctly. We can also design a maintenance program to reduce downtime and keep your systems operating as efficiently as the day they were installed. And we can train your maintenance personnel or implement the program ourselves.
